The Interactive Lightspace is a physical environment equipped with advanced laser tracking technology that actively traces the position of people within it. The space features a high-resolution LED wall where the content is displayed, creating an immersive and interactive storytelling experience. The ceiling of the lightspace is adorned with over 4,700 individually controlled LED lights, acting as a massive "canvas of light" that projects onto the floor.
The lightspace is made possible by 96 LED panels, each providing 49 singular LED lights, all controlled by a custom application. Additionally, two industrial laser range sensors enable position tracking, allowing for interactive experiences within the lightspace. The LED wall measures 6.5 x 2.5 meters, providing a visually stunning backdrop for the interactive content.
Visitors to the lightspace can move around and interact with the content, experiencing various use-cases related to intelligent light and its role in the future of mobility. The lightspace also includes a remote control that offers further interactive options for the operator.
The Interactive Lightspace was showcased at the IAA Pkw 2017 in Frankfurt in September 2017. The design team, consisting of Creative Director Markus Pargfrieder, Designer Martin Zeplichal, and Developer Julian Reil, faced numerous challenges in bringing this innovative concept to life. The integration of multi-user position tracking with the control of 96 LED light panels was a technical feat that required careful planning and execution.
Markus Pargfrieder, CEO of Responsive Spaces, describes the lightspace as a canvas for space, light, and motion. The design not only showcases the capabilities of intelligent light systems but also highlights the expertise of the ZKW Group in automotive lighting. The Interactive Lightspace received the Iron A' Design Award in 2018, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative nature.
